The Liberty 250 traverses the rolling hills of the farm lands inland from Ballito on the North Coast of Kwazulu Natal. Starting and finishing at Sugar Rush Park on the Esenembe Road the routes over the three days take in spectacular scenery and give the climbers plenty of opportunities to show their skills. The King of the Mountain climbs are balanced by some dramatic descents and fast undulating sections with a sprint prize on Day Three.
START AND FINISH SUGAR RUSH PARK
From the start at Sugar Rush Park the route heads west on the Esenembe road and immediately starts the climb known as the Big Hill. With 8km to the top, this is the first King of The Mountain hot spot of the event. At the top the route turns right past Rain Farm and the Peaking Power Station before the Cranbrooke climb which is the second KOM. Down through Groutville and left onto the R102 to Kwadukuza (Stanger)
At Kwadukuza the route turns left onto the R74 and the third KOM being a 7km climb. Turning right off the R74 the route heads out to Doringkop through some magnificent rolling farmlands and then winding back down to the R102 just before the Tugela River. The last 44kms are very fast undulating along the R102 before returning to Sugar Rush Park.
START AND FINISH AT SUGAR RUSH PARK
Heading East from the start, the route turns right onto the R102 on a fast 8km section towards Tongaat. After crossing the Wewe River the road turns up onto the Wewe climb, the first KOM of the day. The route turns right and then right again down The Big Hill and past Sugar Rush Park before turning left onto the R102 and through Shakaskraal. After Shakaskraal the route turns left onto the Glendale Road and turns around at the top of The Glendale climb which is the second KOM hot spot of the day. After Glendale the route turns right to go past the Peaking Power Station and Rain Farm before the steep climb up Mother, the third KOM of the day. After Mother it is a very fast finish down the Big Hill to Sugar Rush Park.
START AND FINISH AT SUGAR RUSH PARK
Stage 3 will be fast and furious with the route exiting the start east and heading through Ballito and onto the M4 Coastal highway. It will be very fast down past Zimbali before the route turns right off the M4 and up the Watson Highway and under the N2 Highway. Turning left off the Watson Highway is the flat section before the airport. Turning at the top, the return trip to the Watson Highway features the Sprint Hot Spot for the day. The route returns to Sugar Rush Park along the R102.
